J-QUANT Ammonium 400 test kits semi-quantitatively measure the ammonium content of aqueous solutions up to 400 mg/L (ppm). Ammonium is an important nutrient for plants and plays a key role in the nitrogen cycle.
The natural breakdown of animal and plant matter produces ammonium which feeds into water courses. Ammonium is converted by bacteria to nitrite and then nitrate, which is another important nutrient for plants. Large increases in pH disrupt this cycle, producing ammonia which is extremely harmful to aquatic life.
Ammoniacal nitrogen may also be determined using this test kit as high concentrations may be found in agricultural settings with the use of fertilisers.
