J-QUANT Chloride test strips semi-quantitatively measure the chloride content of aqueous solutions up to 3000 mg/L (ppm).
High concentration of chloride ions can affect the ecosystems of freshwater environments, allowing saltwater organisms to invade. The presence of chloride ions can also cause or worsen the corrosion of metals.
Chloride can also be an important component of swimming pool sanitation. Most swimming pools are disinfected using sodium hypochlorite, a modified form of chlorine. However, when an electrical current is run through a solution of sodium chloride, chlorine gas is produced allowing for a continuous production of chlorine if the chloride level is sufficiently maintained.
