The J-QUANT Nitrite test strip semi-quantitatively measures the nitrite content of aqueous solutions up to 80 mg/L (ppm).
Nitrite is very toxic to aquatic life and harmful to humans and is heavily regulated in drinking and processed waters. It is easily converted from nitrate which is a key step in the nitrogen cycle. Elevated levels of nitrite can indicate contamination by microbiological organisms and an inefficiency in the nitrification process of sewage treatment.
In the home, nitrite test strips can be used to test the nitrite content of homemade wines and some seafoods.
