The most effective way of cleaning beer lines is to flush disinfectants through the entire line system. Before these lines can be used again, they must be free from any residual disinfectant. As most disinfectants are highly alkaline, phenolphthalein paper is particularly useful as a clear colour change between colourless and pink can be observed in the neutral – alkaline region.
