Turmeric paper gives a qualitative indication of pH between 6.8 and 8.6. Below pH 6.8, a bright yellow colour will be observed, whereas above pH 8.6 a bright red will be observed. This paper can also be used for the detection of borates in water, which show a strong red colour.
